Had a decent 1/2 day trip today, even though I started out way to deep. But we recovered nicely catching 16 walleyes 3 pike (one monster 12 pounder) and a cat. The Pike seemed to like my Meat Freaks better then the walleyes did today. Although I think I had them running to high in the water column as the other cranks I ran nearer bottom were doing better.

Nice Pike, Dan! I'd drive over to fish Pike if I could get into fish like that regularly.

You might want to consider that then. We have 2 decent pike fishery windows here. One on the Kawkawlin river casting spoons and spinner baits after their spawn as they drop back out of the upper reaches, starting from the opener (last saturday in April) till about Mid-May. I can reach almost all of the upper stretches of this river in my Jet Boat, drop the electric and fan cast the river for the almost 3 miles back to the Bay. Haven't done it in a few years, but 15 pike a trip was common when I quit. And this was before our DNR planted pike for 2 years straight.

The other fishery happens in the middle of January at the mouth of what we call the Hot ponds. Not as many for the effort, but some real brusiers are caught then. This is a wade and cast fishery.

Guest.

The word structure and Saginaw Bay are seldom ever used in the same sentence. We do have weed growth now in as deep as 8 FOW since the zebra mussel cleaned the water column, but any kind of solid structure is reserved for the few sand Bars or Marl/rock reefs we have that jut out into the Bay. And I wasn't anywhere near any of them. I was in about 22 FOW and the cranks I was talking about were down about 7 Feet.
