Erie Bounces Back - Thrills Tournament Anglers With Big Walleye
After a slow start to the 2003 Lake Erie tournament season, the World Walleye Associations' second Lake Erie Event was met with exceptional lake, weather and fishing conditions. Nineteen teams left the Huron River Basin Sunday morning and "caravanned" West - North - West to the area just north and East of Kelly's Island.

With the ambient air temperature pushing into the lower 60's by mid-day, the only thing warmer than the temperature was the reception the Lake Erie walleye gave to the competitors trolled lures.

By the Weigh-IN's conclusion 78 walleye weighing 557.04 pounds and averaging 7.14 pounds had been brought to the scale.

Taking first place was the team of Tim Joseph and Don Marston combining their talents for 5 walleye weighing 45.60 pounds. Their limit was topped off with a 11.11 pound fish earning them Big Fish Honors as well. There efforts were rewarded with a check for $1,200.00 for the win and $190.00 cash from the big fish pot.

A close second was taken by the team of Christian Barnett and Robin Reed with a limit catch of 43.52 pounds earning them $680.00.

Third place was earned by Brian Lam and John Economus with a 42.28 pound limit providing a check for $360.00.

The last money finish was taken by Gary and Brandon Zart with a limit of walleye weighing 40.94 pounds, good enough for fourth place and $200.00.

The next Lake Erie events are scheduled for June 7 & 8, 2003 featuring two (2) one-day tournaments based out of Hotwaters in Lorain, Ohio.
