VALLEY CITY, ND, October 9th, 2008: The National Professional Anglers Association (NPAA), a non-profit organization focused on growing the sport of fishing and increasing the professionalism of its members, would like to congratulate NPAA members, Jeff Manz #825 from Vanderbilt, MI and Greg Yarbrough #903 from Port Clinton, OH for their recent victory on the Detroit River and Lake Erie with 49.75lbs. during the three day event Oct. 2-4th. They are crowned, Masters Walleye Circuit World Champions!
With weather conditions restricting anglers to the Detroit River the first day of competition many anglers found it tough to bring in a limit. As the weather improved Lake Erie produced some big fish and Manz and Yarbrough put together a consistant pattern trolling spinner harnesses on planer boards near Pelee Island. Manz said, We owe a lot to our equipment and knew fishing was tough. Yarbrough and I kept to our game plan as we dropped our boards back to the fish for better hook-ups as soon as we noticed the bite. We see light biting fish a lot and know how to react. Jeff Manz and Greg Yarbrough split $26,150.00 which includes the $200.00 MWC/NPAA bonus cash worth $100.00 each. They are sponsored by: Starcraft Marine, Mercury Outboards, Lowrance, Burts Custom Tackle, St. Croix Rods, Church Tackle, Silver Streak, JT Custom Tackle, Northland Tackle, and Berkley.
Finishing in second place was NPAA member Donald Olson #866 and his son Michael from Andover, MN. The Olsons made a power play from 13th place, ending with a total of 48.48lbs. and a $13,000.00 paycheck.
