Gander Mountain Grand National Walleye Cup Kicks Heads to Wisconsin's Lake Petenwell
The second leg for the Wisconsin Region of the Gander Mountain Grand National Walleye Cup (GNWC) is scheduled for Sunday, May 16 at Lake Petenwell.

Lake Petenwell, which is the second largest lake in Wisconsin with over 23,000 acres and 36 square miles, offers walleye anglers a great fishery, but at the same time anglers need to do their homework to eliminate much of
that expanse.

GNWC executive director Bernie Barringer said, "We've had a lot of teams express an interest in fishing Lake Petenwell. This should be a great tournament with a good turnout of anglers and plenty of fish coming to the scales"

Openings still exist for the Petenwell qualifier and Barringer encourages interested anglers to contact him at 1-800-890-FISH (3474), or email the GNWC at [email protected].

Anglers fishing Petenwell have their choice of fishing a river system or a lake system, whichever they feel most comfortable. Barringer added, "There are so many options to explore; that's one of the things that make this tournament so exciting. It could be won in a dozen different ways. Timing will be everything. The angler who figures out how to catch at least one good fish to go with their limit will take home the trophies and the cash."

Competing teams should be at the Adams County Park between 6-6:30 Sunday morning to sign in and participate in mandatory boat inspections. However, the tournament director will have the GNWC trailer at the check-in site from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday evening to answer questions and to take any late registrations.

Host bait shop is the Petenwell Sports Shop.

The tournament hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Weigh-in begins precisely at 3 p.m., with awards to follow. "I encourage the public to come to the weigh-in. It is always exciting to see what fish were caught and to learn the presentations used to trigger the fish," added Barringer.

This will be the halfway point in the season for the Wisconsin Region and will go a long way in determining which anglers will appear in the nationally televised Wisconsin Regional Walleye Championship on Green Lake in late August.

Anglers interested in checking out the standings, reading the releases about any of the eight regions or simply learning more about the circuit can access the Gander Mountain GNWC wwebsite at www.walleyecup.com.

Title Sponsor for the GNWC is Gander Mountain. Other major national sponsors include Skeeter Boats, Yamaha Outboards, the Sportsman Channel, Berkley, Aqua Innovations, YoNet Folding Nets by AMFYOYO, VIB"E" Lure Company, TowTector Shield and UpNorthOutdoors.com.
