Jakuz, Zaja win Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League on Winneconne
WINNECONNE, Wis. (June 6, 2005) - Boater Clifford Jakusz of Stevens Point, and co-angler Jim Zaja of Cudahy, combined for a total of five walleyes weighing 16 pounds, 11 ounces to claim victory at the Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Wisconsin Division tournament held Saturday on the Wolf River Chain. Jakusz claimed $2,835 plus an $500 bonus for the win, with Zaja earning $1,418.

Jakusz and Zaja jigged Lindy Fuzzy Grubs with leech trailers through cane beds in 1-3 feet of water. They reported the wind picked up around 10:30 a.m. and really improved the bite. Jakusz leads the Wisconsin Division points standings with 596.

Finishing second were Dennis Skurulsky of Waukesha ($1,458) and Dieter Voigt of Appleton ($729) with five walleyes weighing 14 pounds, 3 ounces. Lynn Niklasch of Oconomowoc ($1,215) and Scott Lietzau of Menomonee Falls ($608) caught four walleyes weighing 13 pounds, 9 ounces to finish third. Jeremy Goddard of Green Bay ($891 plus $225 bonus) and Kyle Harmsen of Waupun ($445) tied for fourth place with five walleyes that weighed 13 pounds, 3 ounces. Also tying for fourth place were James Tiemann of Marinette ($891 plus $225 bonus) and David Palecek of Green Bay ($445) with five walleyes weighing the same.

The Wisconsin Division's next event will be the season-ending super tournament presented by Evinrude July 9-10 on Lake Winnebago/Menominee. Boaters and co-anglers who finish in the top 35 in final points standings in each FLW Walleye League division will advance to the no-entry-fee $115,000 Wal-Mart FLW League Finals Sept. 8-10 on the Mississippi River in Winona, Minn. The winning boater at the finals will receive an Evinrude-or Yamaha-powered Ranger 621 boat. Every angler who receives weight credit in a tournament earns points, with 200 points awarded to the winner, 199 points for second, and so on, except for Super Tournaments, which award 300 points to the winner, 298 to second, and so on.

WAL-MART FLW WALLEYE LEAGUE TO VISIT THE WOLF RIVER CHAIN
WINNECONNE, Wis. (May 24, 2005) - The Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Wisconsin Division will stage its third tournament of 2005 on the Wolf River Chain in Winneconne June 4. The tournament is expected to draw as many as 200 weekend walleye anglers to the area, with Boater Division competitors casting for a top award of as much as $4,000 and co-anglers in the hunt for a top award of as much as $2,000.

Anglers will take off from Winneconne Water Front Park at 7 a.m., and the weigh-in will be held there beginning at 3 p.m. The community is invited to attend both the takeoff and weigh-in, which are free and open to the public.

Boaters and co-anglers are randomly paired for the event and fish for a combined boat weight. Cash payouts are based on a full field of 100 boaters and 100 co-anglers. Boaters compete against other boaters, and co-anglers compete against other co-anglers.

The winning boater will earn as much as $3,500 cash for the win, and if the winner is a registered owner of a Ranger boat used during the event, the winner receives a $500 Ranger bonus for a top award of $4,000 cash. If the winning boater uses only Garmin electronics with at least one unit being a qualifying unit, the winner will also receive a $1,000 bonus from Garmin for a total award of $5,000. The winning co-angler will earn as much as $1,750 and if the winner is a registered Ranger owner, the winner will receive a $250 bonus for a top award of $2,000.

Three FLW Walleye League divisions - Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin - each feature three one-day events and one two-day Super Tournament during the regular season. Every angler who receives weight credit earns points, with 200 points awarded to the winner, 199 for second, 198 for third, and so on, except for Super Tournaments, which award 300 points to the winner, 299 for second, 298 for third, and so on. These points determine angler standings.

The top 35 boaters and 35 co-anglers from each FLW Walleye League division advance to the $115,000 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Finals, set for Sept. 8-10 on the Mississippi River in Winona, Minn. Anglers finishing in the top 10 in each division also receive priority entry into the Wal-Mart FLW Walleye Tour for 2006.

The Wisconsin Division's fourth stop will be the Super Tournament presented by Evinrude July 9-10 on Lake Winnebago.

If the June 4 tournament on the Wolf River Chain is not yet full, entries will be accepted at tournament registration, which will be held June 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Winneconne Water Front Park located at South First Street in Winneconne. Entry fees are $150 for boaters and $75 for co-anglers.
