Jerowski, Top Fifteen Head to Final Day on the Mississippi River
WINONA, Minn. (Sept. 9, 2005) - Pro Mitchell Jerowski of Winona, caught nine walleyes weighing 35 pounds, 7 ounces over the first two days to lead the $115,000 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Finals tournament on the Mississippi River near Winona. The field of 88 boaters and their co-anglers will be cut to the top 15 boaters and top 15 co-anglers for Saturday's final day of competition.

"It was a lot tougher today," Jerowski said. "I had my fourth fish at 9:30 a.m., and I never got another bite the rest of the day." He continued fishing wing dams as he did on Wednesday, but several anglers were fishing his same areas. He couldn't get to several of his key areas Friday as a result. "I'm going to do the same thing Saturday because there will be a lot less guys on the water."

Rounding out the top five boaters Troy Saunders of Menasha, Wis. (nine walleyes, 29 pounds, 2 ounces); Tim Chick of Winona (nine walleyes, 24 pounds, 2 ounces); Adam Rasmussen of Stevens Point, Wis. (nine walleyes, 23 pounds, 8 ounces); and Leonard Jamison of Hager City, Wis. (nine walleyes, 23 pounds, 4 ounces).

Zachary Jerry of Deer River held on to his day-one lead with a two-day total of 10 walleyes weighing 37 pounds, 5 ounces. He fished with Jamison on Friday. The duo caught nine keeper walleyes trolling willow cats on river rigs around wing dams. A willow cat is a small catfish-like minnow that only grow to 4 or 5 inches. Jerry fishes with Saunders on Saturday.

Rounding out the top five co-anglers are David Palecek of Green Bay, Wis. (10 walleyes, 31 pounds, 8 ounces); Mike Eiden of New Haven, Ind. (eight walleyes, 21 pounds, 8 ounces); Todd Shirkman of Gibraltar, Mich. (six walleyes, 20 pounds, 7 ounces); and Tom Laveque of Saginaw, Mich. (seven walleyes, 19 pounds, 10 ounces).

A total of 178 walleyes weighing 387 pounds, 12 ounces were caught Friday including a beautiful trophy walleye weighing 9 pounds, 6 ounces caught by Tim Long of Winneconne, Wis.

Boaters and co-anglers who finished in the top 35 in final points standings in each FLW Walleye League division advanced to this no-entry-fee tournament. The winning boater will receive an Evinrude- or Yamaha-powered Ranger 621 boat, while the winning co-angler will receive an Evinrude- or Yamaha-powered Ranger 620.

FLW Walleye League boaters and co-anglers are randomly paired and fish for a combined boat weight, with boaters competing against other boaters and co-anglers competing against other co-anglers. Jerowski Wins Wal-Mart FLW League Finals on the Mississippi River
WINONA, Minn. (Sept. 10, 2005) - Pro Mitchell Jerowski of Winona went wire to wire catching 14 walleyes over the course of three days weighing 49 pounds, 6 ounces to win the $115,000 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Finals tournament on the Mississippi River near Winona. Surviving a late charge by Tim Chick also of Winona, Jerowski won a fully rigged Ranger 621 equipped with a Yamaha or Evinrude outboard, EverStart Batteries, Garmin electronics and a Minn Kota trolling motor - a total package valued at $45,000.

"Every one of my fish came on a willow cat," Jerowski said. "I was anchoring on the upstream side of the wing dams and bouncing my live baits along the rocks where there was current."

Fishing wing dams was the key this week as most of the top finishers were doing the same thing. Jerowski targeted several different wing dams and would revisit the productive ones as many as three times throughout each day of the tournament.

"I've fished this stretch of the river all my life, but I found two new areas a week ago that I've never fished," he said. They produced for us during the tournament." Jerowski admitted it was tough fishing, as he went through more than 60 No.1 Gamakatsu Octopus hooks during the tournament. "I would just bounce the willow cats along in the areas I could find current. The baits got hung up a lot, but if they didn't, you could usually catch a good walleye."

Rounding out the top five boaters are Tim Chick of Winona (14 walleyes, 46 pounds, 6 ounces; $4,000); Leonard Jamison of Hager City, Wis. (14 walleyes, 45 pounds; $3,500); Luke Kersten of Boyceville,Wis. (12 walleyes, 31 pounds, 13 ounces; $2,000); and Alan Sholts of Alexandra (12 walleyes, 23 pounds, 4 ounces; $1,900).

David Palecek of Green Bay, Wis., won the Co-angler Division with a three-day total of 15 walleyes weighing 45 pounds, 7 ounces. He earned a fully rigged Ranger 620 valued at $40,000. He fished with Jerowski on Saturday.

David Palecek of Green Bay, Wis., won the Co-angler Division and earned the first-place prize, a fully rigged Ranger 620 valued at $40,000. "It was extremely hot here today but we had a lot of fun," Palacek said. "I won another smaller tournament last week, but this is the biggest win in my career. I plan to fish the boater division next year in my new Ranger boat."

Palacek praised his boater partners for his win. "I wouldn't call these guys boaters," he said. "I would call them professionals because that's how they act."

Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Todd Shirkman of Gibraltar, Mich. (15 walleyes, 42 pounds, 11 ounces; $2,000); Jeff Sass of Waupun, Wis. (13 walleyes, 41 pounds, 5 ounces; $2,100); Zachary Jerry of Deer River (10 walleyes, 37 pounds, 5 ounces; $1,000); and Marcus Berscheid of St. Joseph (13 walleyes, 31 pounds, 8 ounces; $600).

Jerowski and Jerry Lead FLW Walleye League Finals Day One
WINONA, Minn. (Sept. 8, 2005) - Boater Mitchell Jerowski of Winona, and his co-angler partner Zachary Jerry of Deer River, caught five walleyes weighing 22 pounds, 5 ounces to take a commanding lead on day one of the $115,000 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Finals tournament on the Mississippi River near Winona. A field of 88 divisional-qualifying boaters is competing for a top award of a $45,000 fully rigged Ranger 621, while co-anglers are competing for a potential top award of a $40,000 fully rigged Ranger.

Conditions took a turn for the worse on the opening day of the tournament. A thunderstorm blew into the area in the early morning hours and changed what had been a consistent bite in the river.

"The last week and a half has been great fishing," Jerowski said. "We had been getting eight or nine bites on every spot. Thursday we only had eight or nine bites all day and only caught seven walleyes. Not one place we stopped produced more than one walleye Thursday."

Jerowski and Jerry fished a mixture of wing dams and backwater spots with live bait to eek out a limit. Their limit, however, bettered their closest competitor's limit by more than 9 pounds.

Rounding out the top five boaters are Luke Kersten of Boyceville, Wis. (five walleyes, 13 pounds, 1 ounce); Nicolas Schertz of Kalamazoo, Mich. (five walleyes, 12 pounds, 4 ounces); Joseph Schuur of Plymouth (five walleyes, 12 pounds, 1 ounce); and Steve Lotz of Lena, Ill. (four walleyes, 11 pounds, 6 ounces).

Rounding out the top five co-anglers are David Palecek of Green Bay, Wis. (five walleyes, 13 pounds, 1 ounce); Bryan Meyer of Somonauk, Ill. (five walleyes, 12 pounds, 4 ounces); George Bjorgaard of Inver Grove Heights (five walleyes, 12 pounds, 1 ounces); and Michael Westman of Ham Lake (four walleyes, 11 pounds, 6 ounces).

A total of just 157 walleyes weighing 317 pounds, 12 ounces were caught Thursday. Only seven teams boated a limit.

Boaters and co-anglers who finished in the top 35 in final points standings in each FLW Walleye League division advanced to this no-entry-fee tournament. The winning boater will receive an Evinrude-or Yamaha-powered Ranger 621 boat.
