Deal Left Scrounging for the Hot Crank |
Rookie leader Aaron Deal was unsure what the weather would do to his bite on Day Three, but he had bigger issues to deal with yesterday evening.
By days end yesterday, the trees had been pretty unforgiving for Deal and his tackle. The majority of his fish have been coming on one hot crank, a Reef Runner of undisclosed model or color, and he was down to two.
Deal spent the last few hours of the day scrounging through his boat looking for any extra crankbaits that he might have stored, and lo and behold actually found four - two of them in the hot color. He's hoping that those, combined with others donated from three fellow pros, will last through the final day.
He did say that he was going to try a few more natural looking color crankbaits due to the clear water he has been targeting and lack of wave action predicted for today.

Slot Limit Poker with Mark Martin |
Mark Martin's Take on the Oahe PWT event.
"It's kinda like playing cards out here. You have a hand you're going to be dealt, and you have to know which cards to keep and which to throw down."
Well played Mark.

PWT Rookie Pro Holds Lead; Veteran Pro Closes Gap at Mobridge |
Rookie pro Aaron Deal, Herman, Minnesota, leads the Berkley/Lowrance Pro-Am, but veteran In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail pro Mark Martin closed the gap to one-fourth of a pound. Deal's total for five fish each of the first two days is 33.50 pounds. Martin has 33.22 pounds. They're competing in the Minn Kota Pro-Am series of PWT tournaments at Mobridge, SD.
| | Martin's consistency is paying off
| Martin, a past PWT Champion and a winner on the Missouri River, weighed the largest limit on day two, May 29, at 16.97 pounds. The PWT limit for each Pro-Am set of partners is five Missouri River walleyes. Two of those fish may exceed 20 inches; three must be less than 20 inches. The windy start gave way to relatively calm conditions (less than 10 mph winds all day), which allowed every walleye presentation imaginable. According to PWT pros, all worked well. Trolling crank baits at key depths from 10 to 30 feet was the ticket, with Flicker Shads and Reef Runners the popular lures. Rigging with live bait and jigging with Gulp! Alive 3-inch minnows produced fish. Spinners behind bottom bouncers also produced. The Missouri River within 10 miles of Mobridge, SD, was the hot spot, with walleyes lurking throughout the system. Pros and their amateur partners talked freely to the fans in the ALCO Discount Store lot (weigh-in site) about 30 to 50 fish days. The third and final stage and weigh-in ceremonies will occur in the store parking lot on Friday, with the weigh-in starting at 3:30 p.m., and continuing until the winner is crowned about 6:30 p.m. Brent Beitelspacher, Gettysburg, SD holds third with 31.95 pounds, and Dave Anderson, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, is in fourth with 31.13 pounds. On day one, 100 boats arrived with limits; the total jumped to 102 on the second day. Two of the "zeroes" occurred due to one boat being late and another with an extra fish exceeding the 20-inch size limit. The Real-Time Leaderboard on the PWT web site professionalwalleyetrail.com, lists each angler's weight as soon as the scale rings up the total. Photos of the action, stories, results and more news can also be found there. News media may also utilize the images and material. The Minn Kota series continues in Arkansas June 25-27; then to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Sept. 11-13; concluding at Hudson, Wisconsin Oct. 15-17, with the Championship Shootout on Oct. 18. The CAN-AM Super Pro occurs Aug. 13-15 in Dryden, Ontario, with 25-man teams selected by Captains John Butts (Canada) and Gary Parsons (United States). The PWT is an integral element of the In-Fisherman Communications Network headquartered in Baxter, Minnesota, and InterMedia, America's leading producer of targeted media. PWT promotional partners include: Berkley, Lowrance Electronics, Optima Batteries, Minn Kota, Realtree, Outdoor Channel, Starcraft Marine, Northland Fishing Tackle, The Dow Chemical Company, Fin-Tech Tackle, StowMaster, Reef Runner, Yo-Zuri Quality Lures, Smooth Moves Seat Mounts, Kwik Pfyt Mud Flaps, Yellow Bird Planer Boards, Koppers Fishing Tackle, Allstar Graphics, Ram Mounts, Element Edge, Pflueger, Plano Tackle Systems, E-Cell, Cannon and Do-It Molds.

No-Cull Bedtime Horror Stories From Mobridge |
| | Chase Parsons describes his misfortune | Due to no-cull regulations in South Dakota, the decisions when to keep and what to keep can be crucial.
This was no exception for Tracker/Mercury pro Chase Parsons who had his two "overs" in the boat when he brought a 28 inch plus fish aboard that tipped his digital scale over 9lbs.

Lots-O-Limits |
| | Jess Schilling - Fired up on Day One | The Missouri River once again proved why it's one of the best fisheries in the country. With 101 of 104 boats coming to the scale with a five fish limit, fish were plentiful on Day One of the Berkley/Lowrance pro-am.
Two-thirds of the field caught there fish contour trolling with leadcore and crankbaits. Rookie pro Aaron Deal came to the scale with that five fish limit weighing in at 19.22 lbs. Hall of Fame fisherman Mike McClelland, in his first appearance in over two years on the tournament circuit, made a strong showing on his home waters with a total weight of 17.76 lbs. Lee Pulse is holding down third place with 16.47 lbs. Fourth place is Mark Martin with 16lbs-25oz.
Fifth place is being held by local favorite and long time resident of Akaska, South Dakota, Jess Schilling, with a Day 1 weight of 16.4 lbs.

OFM Streams Live Video at the PWT Championship? |
OutdoorsFIRST Media (OFM) broke new ground in May, streaming live video from the PWT Championship held in Bay City, MI.
Zach Boudreau, OutdoorsFIRST Principal, said OFM has been waiting for the chance to partner with a premier tournament organization like the PWT to showcase their abilities.
"Live video adds another dimension to our portfolio of technical offerings. We have been successfully broadcasting live audio, even from remote locations, since April of last year. The PWT Championship demonstrated our ability to deliver on live video as well, especially outdoors in the challenging high wind and stormy conditions present at the event," stated Boudreau.
Over 2600 live streams were served over the course of the three day event.
OutdoorsFIRST will be rebroadcasting the Final Day from the PWT Championship. Stay tuned for dates and times.
